On behalf of Synergy Group and the Organizing Committee of Shamkir Chess 2017, it is my pleasure to welcome you here in Shamkir!

“Shamkir Chess” in the memory of Vugar Gashimov is already a tradition. As you know, this super-tournament is organized for the 4th time in roll in Shamkir city with participation of leading chess players.

As Synergy Group, it is our pleasure to organize and fund this super-tournament. It should be mentioned that, Shamkir Chess is one of the most prominent events contributing for development of intellectual games and chess in Azerbaijan. Herein, the main purpose of Shamkir Chess 2017 is to honor the memory of the famous chess player Vugar Hashimov, to support his family and friends, as well as the development of chess in Azerbaijan.

As you know, Vugar Hashimov became a grandmaster (2002), the winner of Azerbaijan Championship for three times (1995, 1996 and 1998 years) and the European Champion representing Azerbaijani team (2009).
